Cyckeltjuv!

Sweden is a safe country I believe. At least safer than most places you find in the U.S. But one thing they have that is considered rare these days in the U.S.A is bicycle thieves. In Kumla alone the average is 3 bikes stolen everyday. Out of all the things to steal!

If anything it shows how much we Americans rely on our cars these days. Bikes aren't seen much as modes of transportation now but as recreational and sport activity. But in Sweden I have found that bikes are so important in everyday life.

Anyway yesterday I had my bike stolen.

Yes. Stolen.

I had locked it up at the train station and went to school. However instead of taking it home I decided to walk with my friend home and get the bike in the morning. Well I went back to retreive the bike and it was gone.

So now I have to replace the thing. And I feel like an idiot, which is worse than having to replace it.

The word is cyckeltjuv (sickle shoov) which means bike thief.

Hi Lynn!
Hope you are doing well. Sorry to hear about the bike! I really enjoy reading about your experiences (though there are some I am sure you could do without). Keep them coming!
