One of the most famous Swedish authors, Håkan Nesser (Hokan) wrote a book called Piccadilly circus. Well techincally Och Picadily Circus ligger inte i Kumla (Roughly translates to - And Picadilly Circus isn't in Kumla)
I haven't read it, but from what I've been told it's a murder mystery/suspense novel. The relevance of this is that Håkan sets the story in the town of Kumla, which is where I live and the main character goes to Alleskolan, which is the school I go to. Now you may think... wow thats neat....so what? Kumla is a pretty well known place, so it isn't like it's unsual that an author would write a story that takes place there.
The relevance of this and the way it ties into me is that they are in fact shooting a movie based of this book. A movie that will soon be in Theatres. And they are shooting this movie here at my school and in my neighborhood, one street away from my house. That's exciting I guess, because I will be able to show people the town I lived in during my stay in Sweden.
Now I'm not the kind of person who cares about famous people much, follows their lives and their scandals and things like that. I don't really care about things like that, but it still is a little exciting to watch a movie being shot, the sixties costumes worn by the students chosen as extras in the film, and knowing that thousands of people will soon be seeing this on a big screen.
Swedish actors, with the exception of those in Hollywood films and such, are not quite seen as very 'celebrity like' here. One of my friends told me that once she took a train to Stockholm and was sitting beside a film actor the whole time.
''I didn't care, because he's only Swedish films.'' She said, ''But if it had been Brad Pitt I think I would have died.''
So the students of Alleskolan see this film as an annoyance and a nuisance getting involved with their normal lives. I have to admit though, that it quite annoying to have to wait outside to go to class, and for you locker and getting yelled at by the directer ''SPRING SPRING!!!'' as you walk across the hall.
''We are shooting a film'' One of the extras with a ego says in Swedish flipping her painfully blonde hair over her shoulder, a hand on her hip and looking at us in distaste, ''You're in the way.''
We roll our eyes, and continue about in our own way and hope this filming will be over soon so we can go to lunch.

hey Lynn, i love reading all this. gosh canNOT believe you are nearly fluent and reading/writing in sweedish already.
yep in psych. classes i studied stockholm syndrome...many kidnapped ppl come to identify with their captors. its a rather generic term now in law enforcement circles now tho. well my excitement for the week...good friend fell off horse and crushed shouler - her right shoulder and she's a right-handed architect, not good. screws and plates in shoulder pooor thing. so i fed horses, dogs, kids while she was in hosp...fun! my other major excitement is that i got bitten on the neck by a black widow spider, YUK. no one dies anymore by their bites much, but it hurts and could necrose. nasty thought. nice thought: found a green snake sunning itself on a rose bush today, thought at first it was a vine wrapped around. went to get camera but gone, guess i scared the guy when i tried to pick him up, eh? lol. like snakes, HATE arachnids!
keep blogging. and also i hope you are feeling much better by now xooxoxooxooL
